ThingSpace Manage Help FAQs

I’m trying to enter device IDs into the device identifier field, which IDs can I use?

  • IMEI, MEID, or ESN.

What do the “Device status” states mean?

  • Active - Devices are enabled to use the wireless network
  • Deactive - Devices are not longer provisioned for ThingSpace Manage, although they can be enabled for another purpose on the Verizon Wireless Network. The date the device was deavtivated is also displayed
  • Suspend - Devices are not currently enabled to use the wireless network.

What are the fees for deactivating service for devices?

  • Please consult your Verizon contract for rules governing service deactivations. Your account may have Early Termination Fees (ETF) and you may have some number of ETF waivers to apply when you deactivate.

Why can't I select devices on different pages?

  • Device selections are only valid on the page you are currently on. You cannot select multiple devices across pages.

What is the format I need to use to upload devices?

  • Using file upload, administrative users can modify the existing Device Group and Custom Field values for up to 1000 devices at a time. Document format: Files must be saved in comma-separated value (CSV) format with column headers removed. File content format: Each line in a file corresponds to a single device record. Each record must include the following columns in this order: ESN, MEID, IMEI, ICCID, SKU, Device Group Name, Custom Field 1,Custom Field 2,Custom Field 3,Custom Field 4,Custom Field 5

For example, the following file includes three device records with blank values for several columns:

NOTE: The SKU column is optional. When updating existing devices, you can change the values for Device Group and the Custom fields. All other columns are for reference only.

Verizon 2G or 3G device identifiers: Records for 2G or 3G devices must identify a device by either its ESN or MEID. Do not include both identifiers. For example, when a file includes both the ESN and MEID for a 2G or 3G device, ThingSpace Manage stores only the ESN.Verizon 4G device identifiers: Records for 4G devices must include both the IMEI and ICCID or for SIMS ICCID and SKU. If one of the identifiers is missing, ThingSpace Manage rejects the update record. Record limit: Each upload file can contain no more than 1000 device records.

When activating service for a device, I see a list of devices that are not eligible?

  • IMEI, MEID, or ESN

  • Daily usage trending chart
  • Connected session history

  • Connected Session History Report - Run the Connected Session History Report to determine standard connectivity patterns by reviewing all connection sessions during a specified date range, including the usage consumed and duration of each session. The Connected Session History Report only contains information about data sessions that have ended. Start and Stop records delineate a session. The report does not contain information about current, ongoing data sessions, including those of 4G devices that have been connected for an extended period.

What is Rated Unbilled Usage Report?

  • Rated Unbilled Usage Report - The Rated unbilled usage report provides an estimate of rated unbilled usage while a bill cycle is in-progress, Verizon does not recommend that you use this report for third-party billing at this time. Actual billing amounts may differ from ThingSpace Manage estimates in the Rated Usage Report. Usage data is typically two days in arrears for non-roaming data. To obtain a report that contains usage data for the first half of a bill cycle, wait until about Day 17 to generate a report. Roaming data may be updated less frequently. Rated usage data is not available to display in this report until about six days after the start of the selected device’s bill cycle. When you attempt to generate a report before data for the current bill cycle is available, this report displays data and SMS usage from the most recent bill cycle.

What are alert rules?

  • Alert rules define the following items: a group of devices to alert, a behavior that will trigger an alert, the severity of an alert trigger, who the email or SMS alert message will be sent to, how often reminders will be sent, and (where applicable) whether or not to suspend a device upon trigger of an alert. Trigger behaviors are divided into 3 different alert types: Usage, Network, and Transaction.

How long will I be able to access my historical data?

How does my data usage reset every billing?

  • The bill cycle varies by device. At the beginning of each bill cycle, the software resets the amount of data accumulated for a device and returns the device to the bucket with the lowest value range, thus resetting its accumulated usage.

When changes to a Verizon device’s bill cycle are detected, the system automatically adjusts its usage calculations. However, it does not prorate or perform other adjustments due to changed bill cycle date.

Bill cycles tracked in ThingSpace Manage and those used to calculate Verizon invoices are off by approximately six hours. Thus, usage accumulated during the final six hours of ThingSpace Manage bill cycle may appear on the subsequent Verizon invoice.

How do I delete the System Default view?

  • Administrators can only edit the System Default view and cannot delete it. You can create any number of personalized views and designate which view should become the default view. ThingSpace Manage initially provides the System Default view for the screens.
